Club 10 held a Jazzy Midwinter Social and “Sherry-bration” to say farewell and thank you to Executive Director Sherry Howe after 27 years of service. 114 club members, friends and guests gathered at historic Dove Hill, the home of Dick and Nancy Nicholson on Summit Avenue, to enjoy live jazz provided by the Adrian Larkin Trio (including Sherry’s favorite saxophone!), and a hearty sit-down dinner catered by the St. Paul Hotel.

Past Presidents Howard Guthmann, Bob Jones, Nancy McKillips, Dr. Ken Crabb, Carolyn Brusseau, Marj Griffing, Blake Davis, John Andrews, Bob Hutchins and Tom Farnham  -- along with current president John Guthmann, incoming president Carla Hauge and “ringer” Jerry Falletti – performed a one-of-a-kind rendition of “The Gambler” with new lyrics written by Deb Gelbach. The song told the story of the past presidents breaking into the Rotary office to find Sherry’s secret manual for how to train Rotary Presidents. Basically, “you’ve got to know how to mold ‘em, know what you’ve told ‘em, know when to give ‘em heart, and when they’re just plain dumb…”

The past presidents presented Sherry with a charm bracelet marking shared memories, from the annual Rose Sale to Sherry’s love of high heeled shoes, as well as a memory box full of cards and letters from past presidents and members. Thanks to contributions from club members, the club also gave her earrings to match the bracelet and a cash gift to be used for a Rotary service project in Sherry’s name. A grand time was had by all. Many thanks to all who came, those who sang (or tried to), those who sent gifts and messages. A very special thanks to Dick and Nancy Nicholson for providing such a warm and historic setting for this night of Rotary fellowship!
