Great news for the villagers near Laguna Sulti in Bolivia.  You remember that In 2007, Rotary provided significant partial funding to build the Laguna Sulti agricultural reservoir.  Since then, Mano-a-Mano has made incremental improvements and enhancements to the reservoir.

With this Rotary funding, a major expansion can be completed.  Included are:

  • Deepening of the reservoir after the annual drawdown by removing one meter of material from the base of the impoundment and raising the levee wall with this material.
  • Serve new farmer communities of Tajamar and Roman Calle through piping and pumps
  • Train/demonstrate farmers on advanced crops and irrigation farming techniques at the new Mano-a-Mano farmer school near the City of Cochabamga

All of this is possible because of adept and able partners like the Tunari Rotary Club in Cochabamba and Mano-a-Mano.

An ambitious project, yes, but fueled by big-time Rotary subsidy dollars, including $12,000 match from Rotary District 5960 and another $28,595 in Rotary International match.  Even the Twin Cities Rotaract club is involved, contributing $5,000.

            Cash =                                 $33,190
            Rotary District 5960 =          $12,000
            Rotary International =          $28,595

YES!  The power of Rotary!  Rotary matching at $40,595 = 55% of total.  How can that be?  Well, Rotary International is “kick-starting” the Global Grants program with special incentives.

Now, let’s get to work!
