Blake Davis introduced Paula Maccabee with WaterLegacy Advocacy who presented on PolyMet Open Pit Sulfide Mine: Sulfide Mining Track Record, Risks, Choices. The club has heard a variety of speakers
on this important topic this year.

Sulfide mining is copper, nickel, gold from sulfur-bearing rock. Sulfuric acid is toxic and leaches metals releasing sulfate, copper, nickel, arsenic, lead and mercury. Pollutants produced are toxic to the aquatic food chain, fish and human beings.

The US and North America have experience with the significant liabilities sulfide mine pollution creates including Anaconda Mine in Montana. Sulfide mining's track record for water-rich environments like northern Minnesota is 100% pollution.  Long term pollution projections are at least 200 years at the mine site and 500 years at tailing sites.  WaterLegacy Advocacy has presented concerns related to PolyMets site analysis and contamination mitigation strategies. Additional information is available at WaterLegacy.org. Thank you President John for providing visual aide support aka "Vanna White"  for today's presentation.

President John thanked Paula and presented a gift of appreciation.
