What is Rotation Day?  When Paul Harris founded Rotary in 1905, meetings were held at the members’ place of business – rotating from member company to member company – hence the name “Rotary.”  For our club, Rotation Day is an event which brings us back to our “roots” and gives us the opportunity to gain new insights into the vocational challenges and business issues which are unique to our fellow Rotarians.

On October 23 you will have the opportunity to tour one of the following sites:  (REGISTRTION REQUIRED)

The Master Framers (Host: Roger Nielsen) Rotarians will see how period style museum frames are made from the milling and assembly process to carving and/or the adding of composition ornamentation, to gilding with 22 K gold leaf and toning.  Roger and his staff will give demonstrations and a brief history of time tested techniques dating back hundreds, and in the case of gilding, thousands of years.  They will also see frames and art works in various stages of restoration.  Participants will leave with an understanding and appreciation for the art and craft of framing fine art as well as prints, posters and memorable objects.

Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce (Host: Mindee Kastelic) The Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce (SPACC) is a dynamic network of businesses and individuals organized to deliver economic opportunity for its members. More than 1,200 companies of all sizes and industries, as well as not-for-profit and government organizations, belong to the Chamber.  We focus on a number of priorities each year and transportation is one of those organizational priorities.  Rather than host Rotarians at our office, we thought it would be fun to invite you on a backstage tour of Union Depot so that you can see firsthand how light rail transit is going to be impacting Saint Paul/East Metro in the very near future!  The Union Depot Multi-modal Transit Center represents the next stage in the St. Paul - Minneapolis' region's transportation future. A revitalized Union Depot will blend transit modes that exist today with others that are programmed in the region's long range plan in one historic location. This facility will allow for a seamless transfer among transportation modes while providing access to all of downtown St. Paul's services for passengers and those meeting them.

Specialty Manufacturing Company (Host:  Dan McKeown)  Learn about how manufacturing is growing and vibrant in the USA.  We will demonstrate the latest technology in manufacturing.

Lunch will be served at each of the Rotation Day sites.  THERE WILL NOT BE A MEETING AT THE CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL ON TUESDAY, October 23rd!  If you will not be participating in Rotation Day, you are encouraged to make up at another club or attend Thursday’s Vocational Speaker breakfast at the Boy Scouts office.
