Professor David Schultz shared his expertise in U.S. elections with members of the Rotary Club of Saint Paul.  He is a professor at Hamline University and has accurately predicted U.S. Presidents for the past 5 elections.

President’s Remarks:  Greeters were Nancy Anderson and Kirk Kleckner.  Next week’s program will feature Tiffany Easthom, the country director of Nonviolent Peaceforce.  Thursday’s fellowship breakfast will feature Blake Davis talking about the Dictionary project.

Blake Davis asked Rotarians to participate in Dictionary delivery at St Paul schools in the next two weeks.

Carla Hauge thanked the club and the committee for making the Rose Sale a success,

Dan McKeown reminded everyone that the Holiday Party will be happening December 6.

John Guthmann introduced the program, featuring David Schultz, Professor at Hamline University, who spoke on Handicapping the 2012 Elections.   Schultz talked about the closeness of recent races in MN and nationally, and how voting still matters.  He also spoke on the distinctiveness of American political culture and the narratives that inspire campaigns.  Schultz also outlined problems with poll sampling errors, and the effect of the Electoral College.   Schultz said is looks like Barack Obama leads in the Electoral College race, predicted Amy Klobuchar will win the Senate race in MN, that the U-S Senate will be Democratic and the U-S House will be Republican.  He thought the two MN Constitutional Amendments may pass by slim margins, but the Voter ID amendment will be litigated and may not take effect.  Schultz took questions on early voting, and the Bachmann-Graves congressional race.
