St Paul native, Lt Col Mark Weber, was on the fast track to high office in the U.S. Army when an Afghanistan deployment physical knocked him off track tossing his life and his family into the morass of terminal cancer.

The consummate soldier, Weber mapped a battle plan to destroy the enemy, but he also acknowledged the threat and wrote the advice and counsel he had hoped to share with his sons in person.  His book, “Tell My Sons,” is due out in November with offers of support from Mitch Albom, author of Tuesdays with Morrie, and other prominent national people.

Before returning home to serve three years with the Minnesota National Guard, Weber spent 16 years in the regular army stationed through the U.S., Saudi Arabia and Iraq.  He served as public affairs officer for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and was personal military assistant to the Iraqi Chief of Defense.  In 2002 he received the General MacArthur Leadership Award and in 2009 was recognized as the top army recruiter in the country.  He holds a bachelor’s degree from Minnesota State University at Mankato, Master’s Degree in History from Jacksonville State University in Alabama, and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy Management from Georgetown University.  His military awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge. Weber resides in Rosemount with his wife Kristin and their three sons.
