Rotation Day is an event which brings us back to our “roots” and gives us the opportunity to gain new insights into the vocational challenges and business issues which are unique to our fellow Rotarians.

When Paul Harris founded Rotary in 1905, meetings were held at the members’ place of business – rotating from member company to member company – hence the name “Rotary.”  On May 8th members will have the opportunity to tour one of the following sites:

HealthEast Medical Transport (Host:  Kay Baker) Do you know what happens when you dial 911?  HealthEast Medical Transportation provides all 911 services in Dakota County. At Rotation Day, you will; See what happens when you dial 911; Visit the EMS Academy and Simulation Lab; Learn about Advanced Life Support and see how an ambulance is a mini emergency room.  HealthEast Transportation has been meeting the needs of the community for over 134 years and provides over 30,000 calls annually.

Mano-a-Mano (Host:  Dan Narr) Your visit will begin as Rotarian’s enter the Mano-a-Mano office where we will talk about the projects that are on display in the main entrance. Making our way to our conference room, Rotarians will begin lunch with a welcome and offer a 20 minute power point presentation which will demonstrate the impact that Mano a Mano has made over the past 18 years. After the presentation the group will be given instructions to sort medical supplies and sorting will commence for about 45 minutes.  Each Rotary member participating is helping Mano a Mano bring these valuable resources that we in the United States deem trash, to ready them for use in the poorest country in South America – Bolivia.  The supplies not only supply the 127 Mano a Mano community health care clinics, we also share them with over 150 other health related NGO’s in Bolivia to meet their demands for quality supplies they are not able to get in their communities.  This group will figuratively be reaching across national boundaries to make a dramatic difference in the lives of others.

Science Museum of Minnesota (Host:  Vicki Gee-Treft)   As Senior Director for Lifelong Learning at the Science Museum of Minnesota, Dr. Kirsten Ellenbogen leads the departments responsible for evaluation and research, field trips, school outreach, and programming for adults, families, and youth. In this role she is charged with fostering a strategic vision and culture of innovation around lifelong, lifewide, and lifedeep learning in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).  She will talk about how the Science Museum is radically changing how it interacts with schools in order to reach young people who are dearly in need to creative teaching in STEM.
