Dave Pyle worked for The Associated Press for 33 years before retiring in 2012. He held a number of positions in the news cooperative, starting as a reporter in Omaha  and finishing as bureau chief for Minnesota and Wisconsin the last 21 years.

In Minnesota, Pyle oversaw AP's statewide election operations and declared race winners for some of the tightest elections in state history. The Iowa native was active in open government issues, including cameras in the courts and reporter access to the recounts for the Franken-Coleman and Dayton-Emmer elections.
