Jim Gilbert is a consulting naturalist for WCCO Radio, co-author of the Minnesota Weatherguide Environment Calendars since 1977, and the author of five books on nature in Minnesota.  He writes a nature column which appears in several newspapers and teaches part-time in the Environmental Studies Program at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, where he graduated in 1962.

Gilbert earned a master of natural science degree at the University of Oklahoma and later studied at several other institutions, including four summers at the University of Minnesota Lake Itasca Biology Sessions.  For 30 years he served the Hopkins Public Schools as a science teacher and naturalist, retiring in 1998. 

Jim and his wife, Sandy, have three grown sons, three wonderful daughters-in-law and four grandchildren.  Together they have hosted more than 20 eco-tours to Costa Rica, Galapagos Islands, Peru, Kenya, and other places.  The Gilbert’s live near the shore of Lake Waconia.
