Founded in 1978, Wilderness Inquiry (WI) is a 501(c)(3) organization that operates throughout North America and around the globe. Wilderness Inquiry adventures are more than simple vacations. WI uses an approach called the Universal Program Participation Model, which promotes the inclusion of people from all walks of life.  Wilderness Inquiry is all about access, inclusion, and opportunity.

It operates in a manner that facilitates full participation by everyone, including people who come from different physical, cultural, or socio-economic places. In addition to the many outdoor adventures WI also conducts programs that introduce people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to the outdoors in positive, life-changing ways. This program will feature the Urban Wilderness Canoe Adventures, a collaborative venture that reaches 13,000 underserved Twin Cities youth annually.

Greg Lais is the founder and Executive Director of Wilderness Inquiry. A graduate of St. Paul’s Harding High School, Greg attended St. John’s University, where he and classmate Paul Schurke started Wilderness Inquiry to demonstrate how everyone could enjoy and benefit from wilderness experiences. Greg and Wilderness Inquiry have received many awards over the years, including the 2010 Non-Profit Excellence Award for large organizations, and, coming up September 4th, Greg is receiving the Social Entrepreneur Award of the Year from St. John’s University and the College of St. Benedict.
