The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies more than 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families.

ImageGeoff Kaufmann, CEO, North Central Blood Services and Phil Hansen, CEO, Northern Minnesota Region will present an overview of American Red Cross’ mission and what services the Red Cross provides to Minnesotan’s and the local community. They will describe how partnering for success has created a unique collaboration between Blood Services and Humanitarian Services that is being used as a national model to optimize resources to achieve collective goals and objectives. 

Geoff Kaufmann joined North Central Blood Services Region in 2008, with a long and successful career as a leader and administrator in the healthcare industry, including serving as chief administrative officer for the Stillwater Medical Group. He has more than 30 years experience in the Twin Cities area with a background in business strategy, planning and implementation. Kaufmann has worked with many of the hospitals served by North Central Blood Services and has been a member of North Central’s Board of Directors for more than 13 years, the past year as chairman.

Kaufmann attended St. Olaf College in Northfield and received his Masters in Health Policy and Management from the University of Chicago. He also teaches at the Carlson School of Management and the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn.

ImagePhil Hansen has served in the nonprofit sector as a leader, fundraiser and management professional for more than 20 years and is currently the Regional Chief Executive Officer for the American Red Cross Northern Minnesota Region.

Hansen began as a District Executive with the Boy Scouts of America-Gateway Area Council in La Crosse Wisconsin. During his career with the American Red Cross, he has served as a director of disaster services, director of health and safety services, development director, regional development officer, and as a Chapter CEO in Madison and LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Hansen also served as the service area executive with the American Red Cross national headquarters, overseeing 140 Red Cross chapters in 8 northeastern states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. 

He has supported and responded to hundreds of disasters across the country, helping thousands of people recover from the worst of circumstances.  Hansen holds a B.S. in Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and is nearing completion of a Masters Degree in Nonprofit Management from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
