Tomihisa Tau, the mayor of Nagasaki, helped to dedicate the statue along with Saint Paul Rotary President Dan McKeown and Nagasaki Rotary President Kenji Araki. The ceremony was covered by local television and print media.

After the dedication, the delegation attended a reception where the Mayor expressed his gratitude for the gift of the statue. District Governor Joe Kovarik also spoke to the group.

For the next two days, the Saint Paul delegation was very well hosted by the Nagasaki Rotarians as they visited several city sites and witnessed the Nagasaki Kunchi festival, an annual festival that is famous throughout Japan.
