President Carla Hauge called the October 20 regular member meeting together and invited all to stand for an opening song. Bob Jones continued to entertain on the piano by opening the meeting with God Bless America with David Laird as song leader. Kathleen Riley shared an inclusive inspirational opening with credit to Google search.

 

President Carla thanked greeters John Chandler, Sarah Kolar and scribe Trixie Golberg. President Carla clarified meeting times indicating that meetings officially end at 1:15 p.m. with programs running 25 minutes. President Carla thanked last week's three Rotation day hosts.

Michael-Jon Pease welcomed visiting Rotarians and guests and accepted Happy Dollars including a challenge fundraising opportunity for the St. Paul Rotary Foundation from Valdi Stefanson for one of our international projects. Please note, these extra donations to the Saint Paul Rotary Foundation need to be earmarked "Bolivia project."

Mindy Kastelic shared that Cookie Cart will be our October 27 program.

Jay Pfaender introduced Maureen Bausch,CEO with the Bold North 2018 Minnesota Super Bowl L II Committee. Maureen detailed all the venues and events for the full pre-week, week of and game experience. Hosting the game is expected to have a $400 million net economic impact and the cost of hosting a Super Bowl is about $50 million, The committee is expecting more than 1 million attendees. Activities include entertainment, community events, leadership opportunities and promotion of Minnesota's best. The Committee has 20,000 rooms already booked. About 35 committees will be leading planning and implementation. Committees will be lead by both a seasoned and a new leader. Hosting will require more than 10,000 volunteers.

The goal in the end of hosting these large events is to bring people, opportunities and business to Minnesota.

President Carla adjourned the meeting after recognizing Maureen with a donation to the Reading Together Program.
