Right Track is a unique City of St. Paul career development initiative for youth, offering jobs and internships to build a diverse workforce for the future.  Youth of color are likely to have less exposure to early job opportunities and experiences with smaller community or professional networks to support their job and career interests.

Right Track invites St. Paul employers of all sizes and industries to sponsor a high school intern this summer.  Employers can indicate their interest to be matched with an intern by visiting righttrack.stpaul.gov.  Employers can sponsor 1 or more intern for a 6-9 week summer experience ranging from 15 to 40 hours per week.  Employers are asked to pay a minimum of $9.00 per hour.  There may also be scholarship funds available to assist employers in covering costs. Last summer the program placed 108 youth and 95% of supervisors reported they would recommend their intern.  94% of youth completed the internship and accompanying training provided by Right Track staff.  Other opportunities to support Right Track and St. Paul youth is through sponsoring scholarships, volunteering as interviewers or speakers and recommending the program to other employers. Students who have participated in the program are highly committed to their success and to the community with many going on for post-secondary education after completing high school or being offered opportunities through their work sites.  Members noted that the trades were a particular important industry for the program to connect with.

President Carla thanks the Right Track presenters and lead members through the Four Way Test and the meeting was adjourned about 1:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Trixie Golberg
