MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

As part of St Paul Rotary’s Centennial Celebration, our Club entered into a five-year partnership with Feed My Starving Children to both involve Club members in a meaningful service project and to help increase FMSC’s ability to feed starving people around the world.  The five-year project had the following goals:

1.      Provide a truck to support the mobile packing efforts of Feed My Starving Children which would:
               a.       Support the packing of 30 million meals over the five year period and

b        Involve 100,000 young people in a meaningful service project.

Image2.      Conduct five annual St Paul Rotary sponsored food packing events which would:

a.       Pack 500,000 meals for starving children and
               b.      Involve a majority of our club members in this service project.

3.      Encourage other area Rotary Clubs to sponsor food packing events in their communities.

At the end of the five year project (6/30/2014), the goals were met or exceeded.

GOAL # 1 - A used semi-trailer was purchased, rehabilitated and placed into service by Feed My Starving Children in November of 2009.  Over the term of the project, this vehicle supported a total of 150 packing events in 16 states.  These events involved 173,653 volunteers (including about 90,000 young people) and produced 39,171,083 meals; sufficient food to feed 107,300 starving children for an entire year.

ImageGOAL # 2 – St. Paul Rotary conducted five packing events between 2010 and 2014.  These events involved over 2,600 volunteers and produced over 737,700 meals.  More than 70% of St Paul Rotarians participated in one or more of the events.  Co-chairs Doug Hartford and Clyde Nelson are particularly grateful to member Mark Stutrud who made the Summit Brewery facilities available as a site for all five of the Club’s packing events.

GOAL # 3 – Rotarians from our region (District 5960) enthusiastically joined in to help.  In addition to the Clubs and individuals who participated in the St Paul packing event, area Rotary Clubs sponsored seven Imageadditional food packing events in their local communities over the five years of the project.

St. Paul Rotarians raised over $275,000 to support the project.
