Cross Egypt Challenge is a series of endurance scooter rides aiming to promote tourism, alternative sports, and alternative means of transportations in Egypt.  The series started in 2011 and the first challenge was a 9 day ride from the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in the North of Egypt to the temple of Abu Simbel, on the southern borders of Egypt with a total distance of over 1700 km.

The 2013 Challenge will witness a more challenging route and is planned to take place between the dates of November 8 -16, 2013. The new season includes a rough route of 2400 km throughout most of Egypt's finest spots.  It will start from Alexandria, the Mediterranean's largest coastal city, then head toward Egypt's capital, Cairo before going South West to explore some of the most fascinating oasis of the Egyptian Sahara (desert). A total number of 4 oasis will be explored on route before arriving to the world's largest open air museum city, Luxor, the capital of Ancient Egypt.

From Luxor the riders will head east to the coastal cities of Hurghada and Sokha, both lying on the shores of the Red Sea, then the final leg of the 2013 season will take place between Sokhna and Cairo to end the new season under the Great Pyramids of Giza.

Al tells us...

Egypt is safe.  The people are friendly.  The monuments are old.  All of our scooters have the Rotary symbol on them.  I have met 4 other Rotarians so far.  One from South Africa and two from Brazil.  There may be more that have not identified themselves as Rotarians.

I will be back in 9 days, inshallh.

Say hello  to folks for me.
