Dennis Wayne Boom was born in Marion, ND and grew up in Valley City, ND. He came to Saint Paul to attend Hamline University. After two years he transferred to the U of MN where he received his degree in Mortuary Science in 1962. He spent his entire working career at the Holcomb-Henry-Boom-Purcell Funeral Home. He purchased the funeral home business in 1981 from Earl and Roswitha Holcomb. Dennis and Elaine expanded the business to a second location in Shoreview in 1993. Dennis was an extremely generous person. He was an active philanthropist who gave of his heart and time to his community. Dennis was Prime Minister of the 1996 Saint Paul Winter Carnival, and was a member and served in leadership roles in Midway Lions Club, Tusler-Summit Masonic Lodge #263, Saint Paul Osman Shrine, Honolulu Aloha Ct #1 ROJ and Waikiki Yacht Club. He sang in church choirs for over 50 years beginning in Valley City, ND, Hamline United Methodist Church and St. Andrews Cathedral in Honolulu, HI. Dennis joined Saint Paul Rotary in 1989 and was very active. He had a love of music and was a regular piano player for our Rotary meetings. He played by ear. Dennis also generously donated his penthouse condo in Hawaii for our annual silent auction to raise funds for the Saint Paul Rotary Foundation. Dennis was an enthusiastic bridge player. His true love was international travel and he and his late wife Elaine, traveled the world together, visiting all seven continents. Dennis was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elaine in 2015 and his parents, Aaron and Marie Boom. He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Sean Furrh and his special grandchildren, Annabelle, Sofia and Ian Furrh; cousins and many Rotary friends. We request that this memorial resolution be read into the minutes of the Rotary Club of Saint Paul and that a copy be sent to his family members.
